Our story opens with Harley Quinn making a dash for it. Outmaneuvering the orderlies at Arkham, she bids farewell to the doctor and makes a dive off of a cliff. Harley’s love for the Joker cannot be bound by walls, guards, or her pending release from the asylum. Nothing can stop her from being with her puddin’ on Valentine’s Day. It’s actually kinda sweet, in a sick, twisted way!
Harley arrives at the couple’s hideout to find out that Mr, J has been kidnapped by Carmine Falcone’s guys. Armed and ready and on a tight deadline, Quinn goes searching for her beloved.
It is revealed that Falcone is raffling off the Joker to some of his past victims; those unfortunate ones that were stolen from, embarrassed by, or hurt by the Joker’s antics. For $100,000, Falcone will hand over the Joker “wrapped in a bow.” As the bidding begins, a red gloved hand raises and grabs the attention of the crowd and Falcone. After nearly blowing up the place, injuring some attendants, and putting two bullets in Falcone, Harley is given the location of Mr. J. With only 8 hours left, she scurries on her way.
It isn’t long before Harley runs into her next obstacle, the Gotham City Police Department. In the midst of chaotic gunfire, she launches a grenade at them to make her escape.
Fighting the clock, Harley Quinn blows the scene (pun intended) in a stolen patrol car. With the police in hot pursuit, she frantically hurries to find the Joker.
Kicking the door open with excitement, Harley finds an empty room. Out of the shadows an all too familiar voice speaks. Batman got to him fist and has returned the Joker to Arkham. He promises Harley that if she turns herself in that he will have candles and dinner waiting for her and the Joker at Arkham.
Happy as a clam, Harley finally got what she wanted all along, to be with her sweetheart on Valentine’s Day!
I have always had a fondness for this story. Despite what differences Joker and Harley Quinn may have had in the past and regardless of how others may perceive their relationship, they have stuck it out. These two lovers and partners in crime continue to enthrall one another year after year. You might say they are twisted soul mates. Whether you agree with their dynamic or not, one thing is for certain, they are never boring. Happy Valentine’s Day!
This post is dedicated to my sweetheart. Happy Valentine’s Day, S Seitz!
